Orientation, Farming, and Encouragement
After finishing preparations for this morning’s study on
James 1:1-18, the team was able to get to bed early last night. We got up around 6:45, and gathered for
breakfast at 7:30. Although there were a
few tired eyes during this meal, the team was very eager to start our first
full day in the Dominican Republic!
Breakfast consisted of cornbread, coffee, and a delicious
tropical juice. After this meal, Jeremy
led a discussion on the passage in James.
This was followed by a time of group prayer.
In order to get familiar with our new surroundings, Doug
Diehl (Associate Director of Partners in Christ) and a number of the Domincan
students provided us with a tour of the complex. In addition to seeing the school grounds and
the chapel, Linda McMillan (missionary) provided us with a fascinating tour of
the farm. Needless to say, the students
learned quite a bit of new information about animal husbandry and
horticulture! Jess, Rachel, Bailey, and
a number of other students were able hold an infant goat during this time.
Most importantly though, Linda used the tour to encourage our
team to be bold in sharing the gospel with those whom God has placed in our
lives. In particular, she shared some of
the practical ways that she uses discussions about the farm to speak with
visitors about Jesus. Feel free to ask
the students about the banana tree illustration when we return!
Once we completed the tour, we split into four work
groups. Two of these groups are
responsible for painting, and the other two are responsible for working with
concrete. The members of groups will be
rotating throughout our time here.
Please note that Ingrid’s eyes lit up when she heard of a potential need
for demolition work later in the week.
We are hoping to find a constructive outlet for her to serve passionately
in this capacity. :)
Thank you again for your prayers and support! We will do our best to upload some of Annie’s
pictures soon!
