"Flight of Destiny"
Praise the Lord! The team has arrived safely
in the Dominican Republic, and it has been our smoothest trip to date.
Last night, family and friends from the church
gathered to send off the team with prayer and praise. After a brief
night's sleep at the church, we set off for the Philadelphia airport at 3:30am.
God cleared a path ahead of us in an incredible way with a wonderful
sister in Christ at Delta Airlines. Lurene, our new friend, opened up a
special section to check in our entire team and we arrived at the gate just in
time to board our first flight. Both our flights today were uneventful
and we arrived in Atlanta as well as Santo Domingo on schedule with all
luggage in hand. During our flights, the team caught up on sleep and
stuffed themselves with tiny airline snacks. Cameron has logged the most
hours of shut eye so far and and Kai has set a high academic standard by
completing a large chunk of her summer reading on the flights.
We were not the only ones sporting matching mission
trip shirts in the airport today. In fact, there were four teams headed
to do the Lord's work on our flight to Santo Domingo. Diego, who leads
our work projects here in Juan Thomas, referred to our plane ride as a
"flight of destiny." Since Adam, Jeremy, and Tiffany all spent
years in the South, they quickly lapsed into southern drawls when speaking with
the teams from Mississippi and Georgia.
Jeremy is leading our team through 1 John this week
and we'd love it if you could read along with us as you pray. Today we
read 1 John 1:1-10 and we reflected on the importance of recognizing our sin in
order to fully appreciate what Christ has done on our behalf.
We are so grateful for the prayers covering our
team, both those at home (special thanks to the parents on the morning
conference calls!) and those here in Juan Thomas. Our team plans to pray
'round the clock as we work. We have been especially blessed by the
beautiful examples of fervent prayer set by Miriam and Maria.
It has been a long day of travel, so we're heading
to bed early. Feel free to leave us comments and we'll be glad to share
them with the team! (Pictures coming soon.)
We wanted to end this blog post with an authentic
Spanish send off. Unfortunately, neither of us paid enough attention during
our elementary Spanish classes, so... El Goodnighto!

P.S. We hoped to post this last night, but were unable to because of a
power and generator outage. Thanks for
your patience.
