Friday Recap

Friday ended up being our most productive work day so far. Sanul worked with Cherith and Reed in the clinic. Bailey and Abraham led the painting team in the lower school. Blake and Jeremy worked on  installing a wall in the new classroom. And Chris Andino played a critical roll translating for our Dominican mason and all the guys on our team who were mixing concrete.

CJ and JP definitely had a full day of hard labor that will prepare them well for the upcoming football season. They worked on the concrete mixing team which always attracts a group of Dominican teenage boys. They did really good work and ended up producing enough concrete for our mason to install half of a new ramp, and all all three new steps in front of the new classroom in the high school.

Anytime Sanul’s team wasn’t busy organizing the pharmacy or meeting with new patients in the clinic, they find a way to visit the workers on the goat farm. Most of these workers are Haitian and they have really gone out of their way to help us connect with those who need medical
attention the most.

Abraham and Bailey led a very productive paint team in the lower school. Abraham’s height and wingspan have helped the team immensely when both ladders were needed by folks over in the high school. Sebastian has helped on this team, and his ability to speak Spanish has been instrumental all week. And every single high school on this team has worked tirelessly and with a Christ-honoring attitude.

It has been encouraging, in particular, to see CJ, Anna, Enya, and Allison, coming out of their shells and developing deeper relationships with other folks from our church. Over the years, the Lord has worked faithfully through this trip to not only draw us closer to the Dominicans... but also to draw students from Proclamation closer to Himself and closer to one another.

I should also point out that Chris Andino has continued to use his Spanish in a pivotal role all week. It has been such an eye-opening experience seeing the Lord work through him in this context, and it has definitely cause me — and others — to consider whether or not the Lord might be using this to clarify a sense of calling in his life. Please continue to pray for this dear brother and for how the Lord night use him for kingdom work in the future.

Yours in Christ,
Jeremy
