Bilingual Prayer Meeting and a Gift

The air is moist.  The temperature is moderate.  Partial cloud cover provides frequent relief from the sun's rays.  A light breeze causes the tall, densely covered trees to sway gently against the tropical sky.  It's another beautiful morning here in the Dominican Republic!

Last night the team enjoyed a wonderful time with our Dominican brothers and sisters at the Wednesday evening prayer meeting.  There were approximately 50 people in attendance, including a number of young children.  (A dog with a mottled coat waited patiently for its master just outside of the open door to the chapel throughout the meeting.)  Activities included worship through song, a time of prayer in small groups, and a message on Nehemiah that was delivered in Spanish, and translated into English.

After this meeting, we had the privilege of delivering one of Proclamation's gifts to the church in Juan Tomas: A large number of theological books that had been translated into Spanish!  Authors included John Calvin, John Piper, Charles Spurgeon, Tim Keller, John MacArthur, John Stott, and our very own Mark Johnston (commentary on the book of John).

Needless to say, the church was overwhelmed by this generous gift!  They were very thankful for these additional resources, and excited to use them for God's glory.  (Proclamation provided the church with a number of theological works last year as well.)  In fact, our gift prompted the creation of a new work project: building a library within the chapel to house the expanded collection of theological materials!

Today the team will focus on preparing a number of elementary school classrooms for the next school year.  Activities will include cleaning floors, clearing cobwebs, installing windows, and painting.  If time permits, we may start to work on the library as well.

Aside from a few minor cuts, scrapes, bruises and bug bites, the team is in very good health.  (Praise the Lord!)  We are really enjoying our time here.  Thanks again for all of your prayers!

  1. Adam brother, you are painting with words here...painting a very nice and detailed picture for us so that it is almost like being there! I for one greatly enjoyed the detail about the dog with the mottled (impressive vocabulary) coat which waited outside the meeting. I would like to meet this patient canine...I am sure we would be friends.
Thank you for these excellent updates!
