Tales of God's Faithfulness

Good afternoon!  We hope you enjoyed the pictures that were posted earlier.  As you can see, we've made some wonderful friends here in Juan Tomas.  Whether at work or play, we are taking full advantage of every opportunity to connect more deeply with our brothers and sisters in Christ.  In addition to growing in our relationships with other members of the team, we have been able to get to know a number of the Dominicans on a deeper level as well.

For example, last night Jeremy and Rachel spoke with Argenis Taveras (Church Elder and High School Principal) about his faith.  They were encouraged to hear how God brought him from nominal Christianity to true faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  I (Adam) spent a few hours speaking with Roberto Araujo King (Social Studies Teacher) yesterday as well.  In addition to discussing politics and the history of US-Dominican relations, I learned how Roberto became a Christian after one of his friends spoke with him about the gospel.  Although Roberto faced almost immediate persecution for his faith, his perseverance reminded me of how faithful God is to his children.

After a night filled with meaningful conversations, games, and lots of laughter, the team went to bed around 10:00.  This morning we ate breakfast and spoke about James 1:19-27.  After a short time of prayer, we broke into teams for the day's activities.

Jeremy, Sam, Annika, Mary, Annie, Molly H, and Molly W spent the morning painting high school classrooms.  Jess and Elizabeth helped organize and catalog books in the school's library.  (No small feat since all of the titles were in Spanish!)   Mike, Seth, and Tad provided some much needed muscle in the areas of mixing concrete, digging trenches, and moving wheelbarrows full of dirt and rocks to various locations around the school.  Melynda kept track of the tools used on each project.  Rachel, Christina, Bailey, Ingrid and I rearranged the contents of a classroom so that one of its walls can be demolished safely in the near future.

In other news: Bailey held a number of creatures today.  These included a dead cockroach (which she later discovered was filled with maggots), a worm, and a small garden snake.  While Christina appreciated Bailey's love for these creatures, she was not interested in making contact with any of them herself.

More updates to come!
