Our Final Work Day

Good morning!  It's hard to believe that today is our last work day.  In our morning  devotions, we read 1 John 3:16-4:6.  Jeremy and the students talked about what sacrificial love looks like and how we can actively demonstrate it as we work throughout the day.

We started the morning with a walk-through of all of the work sites to determine what we need to focus on today.  Some of our projects are completely finished and ready for classes to start.  Others still need additional work or finishing touches.  Please pray for us today that we would finish well.

Our team has been blessed by tremendous team unity and love in the way we are working together, both as a team and with the Dominicans helping us this week.  Projects that we expected to take several days were finished in an afternoon!  Kai, Molly W, Molly H, and Nick finished some of the elementary classrooms and painted the rafters in the courtyard yesterday.  Tad (while singing), Lukas, Christina, Nanako and Ingrid cleaned the ceilings and swept up the dust and paint from all our projects in the high school classrooms.  Dawson, Dan, Jeremy, Rachel, and Cameron painted the new music classroom that our team had laid the concrete for several days ago. Bailey finished painting the Mission and Vision statement for the school on the wall outside the office.  (And Kang In was fanned by Adam in the tool shed.)

Yesterday, I saw Miriam walking back from the tool shed with a fresh gallon of paint... carried on her head in true Kenyan style.

Miriam proceeded to teach some of us how to not only walk with items balanced on our heads, but also how to dance. Throughout this week, Miriam has been a beautiful example of exuding joy and praising the Lord in everything that she does.  As we study 1 John and concentrate on Christ-like love, it has been encouraging to see it acted out in front of us.

We hope to finish up all our work projects by mid-afternoon and take a walk into the village after.  Tonight we have another worship service for the youth at the church across the street.  In the morning, we'll take a bus into Santo Domingo to attend church in the city.  Richard (the school administrator) plans to give us a historical tour of the city while we're downtown.  Please keep us in your prayers that we would continue to be safe and healthy over these last few days of our trip.
